THIS IS NOT A DRILL - character breakdown
Jessica - an author and young mother of two small children. After the heartbreaking news that her husband has been cheating on her, she flies to Hawaii to spend time on her own to contemplate her future. She struggles to decide if her marriage is worth fighting for or not. (belt soprano)
Tony and Chris - a gay couple from Cincinnati, arrive in Hawaii for a much needed vacation after a devastating failed adoption attempt back home. After the missile crisis, they find a new path for moving forward and building a family. (tenors with good range)
Sophie and Derek- an older African American married couple now questioning the bond they once had in their marriage. After facing the missile crisis together they rekindle the love that was always there in a profound way. (big ballad R&B voices)
Kaleo, Leilani, and their son Ikaia - this Hawaiian resident, Asian mixed family is conflicted by carrying on the traditions of the Hawaiian life through island tourism versus finding a new path. Their teenage son is trying to pull away from them, and we see the struggles of a family facing the unknown. After the missile crisis the family unites in ways they could have never imagined. (mid-range on both voices)
Anonymous Button Guy - the man who makes the decision to push the button and send out the missile alert. He is a Jim Carey kind of character. Unhinged, neurotic, scattered, unpredictable, and quirky, he gives some comic relief to the show. (Rock style singer)
Trump and Kim Jong-un (ensemble members) - sing “Mine Is Bigger Than Yours”, a comic take on their actual Twitter conversations regarding whose nuclear button was bigger, plus other information found in the media. (Mostly spoken parts)
